Sometimes we need a little spoiling, something sweet...a dash of zest!
Tangelo are a very underrated citrus fruit but the flavour is amazing! Tangy and sweet all in one and the flavours combine well with other citrus. You can get a great crop from just the one mature tree but be quick to harvest as the Bower Birds and Possums love them just as much.
This glut means that preserving your bounty is integral to the 'no waste' permaculture principle. I share with neighbours, do produce swap as well as juice them down to make syrups.
Picked fresh from the garden, juiced down then reduced to syrup all in the one day. Hot bottled for shelf life so no need for nasty chemicals.
Once opened pop in your fridge but they don't last long before a bottle is all gone anyway!
Feedback has been that this is a great mixer with alcoholic drinks, soda, sparkling water as well as flat filtered water. It also goes well drizzled over ice cream. Come up with your own ways to enjoy this syrup and let me know!
